Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James recently made a public declaration saying that the NBA on Christmas Day games, throwing a direct jab at the NFL, who also had their Christmas Day games. However, the numbers eventually showed otherwise and it resulted in some people calling out LeBron and helping him realize that sports on Christmas is no longer about the NBA.
In one of the episodes of their program Outkick, hosts Jonathan Hutton and Davey Hudson talked about LeBron’s statement on Christmas and how the NFL has dominated and highlighted the “downfall” of the NBA.
“It was not something I tuned into,” Hudson said, admitting that he did not watch the NBA Christmas games. “And you know it’s one of those things where with the NFL, I’m obviously going to choose that over the NBA every day and twice on Sunday, right. But it gets to the point to where, I can’t remember seeing a league go downhill as fast as the NBA is and I know they still have you know their die-hards but as far as the casuals, I mean they’re doing absolutely nothing to make us want to tune in.”
Hutton agreed to this, highlighting how right now, the NFL is providing a better product than the NBA, as the basketball league “tunes us out.”
“No, they do everything to make us tune out, you know,” Hutton said. “It’s more or less ‘you’re either with us or against us’ and [in] the NFL you can be against what they’re doing. You know, they’re taking over and the owners are making $500 million dollars off of the television rights fees before the season even kicks off. But we’re still watching. Because of the product. The NBA’s style of basketball has gone down the drain, you know. College basketball has been really good. [It’s a] totally different sport.”
Outkick Host on Lebron James vs Steph Curry: “I Don’t Care”
Jonathan Hutton also admitted that he did not watch the Christmas Day game of the NBA, which mainly featured a game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors, particularly having star players LeBron James and Steph Curry face off.
Huton said: “The NBA on Christmas day, it’s gone down the drain. With the style of play, all the threes, non-competitive games, you’ve seen a lot of blowouts. And in this game, we had Steph Curry and LeBron James and I didn’t care.”
LeBron James so far has played 19 Christmas Day games, including the recent one for the 2024-2025 season.
