Lebron James is honored to have been able to raise the American flag at the 2024 Olympics’ opening ceremony. Along with tennis player Coco Gauff and the rest of the USA team, James successfully withstand the weather changes in Paris last Friday.
In his interview with NBC, the two-time Olympic gold medalist shared his experience during the ceremony, witnessing the people and the venues from the Seine River. For James, the rainy weather at that time did not negatively affect the big moment. The four-time NBA champion’s five-word comment might be one of his iconic statements.
“The rain can’t stop us,” captions James.

One of LeBron James’ statements with the NBC
The current Lakers veteran was moved on to be the USA’s flag bearer for Paris. Along with James, only two other basketball players became America’s flag bearers for the Olympics, where Lebron was the first male ball player. He then recalled going back to his hometown, Akron. For the 39-year-old, his’ big moment ‘isn’t just representing America, but precisely, also the place where he grew up.
“It’s an honor, it goes all the way back to my hometown, to my communities, all of our communities. For myself and Coco, for us to be able to represent our country.”
To the Lakers’ power forward and his fellow flag bearer Gauff, this ample opportunity also means representing their African-American identity, sharing its strength and culture worldwide. They take this rare chance with responsibility and honor.

Lebron James and his Olympic experience
Lebron James had already participated in three Olympics. He already had a bronze medal in his first deployment in 2004. In his next two Olympics, James won two gold medals. Unfortunately, the King was never included in the 2016 and 2020 Olympics, where the USA also gained gold medals. In 2024, possibly his last, James is confident that he’ll be able to earn another medal for his legacy.
James is never alone in his quest for another gold medal. Like in the previous Olympics, he has his fellow veteran NBA players to play with. While they might have strong enemies, Team USA knows that they’re determined to get to the finals and win the championship. The Olympic veteran’s presence on the team will surely bolster the team’s will and commitment.
Lebron’s team will face Serbia, South Sudan, and Puerto Rico on July 28 in Lille as part of the preliminaries.
