LeBron James news: Erik Spoelstra made history on Tuesday night after it was announced that the two-time NBA champion coach had come to an agreement with the Miami Heat to extend his deal. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Coach Spo’s new deal is worth a whopping $120-plus million for eight years.

This is an undeniably significant moment in Spoelstra’s career as his new deal represents the most money ever committed to an NBA head coach. Unsurprisingly, one of the first players to congratulate him on this marvelous feat is none other than Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James.

Spoelstra’s current deal was nearing its expiration date and the Heat front office had no intention of messing around. There was never really much doubt that Spoelstra would put pen to paper on a new deal with the same organization he’s been working with for the past three decades. The 49-year-old started his career with the Heat as a video coordinator in 1995, and he’s certainly come a long way since.

Spoelstra is now in his 16th season as Miami’s head coach, where he’s won no less than two NBA titles. He’s also led the Heat to six Eastern Conference championships, with the last one coming during the 2022-23 season.

LeBron knows Coach Spo well. These two worked together for quite some time during James’ tenure in South Beach. Their partnership, along with the likes of Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, to name a few, resulted in back-to-back championships in 2012 and 2013, which also happen to be LeBron’s first two career titles.

James took to Twitter to congratulate his former coach as soon as the Lakers talisman heard about the news:

“Worth Every Single Cent of that contract!!! Congrats Spo!! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🫡,” LeBron wrote.

Once again, this is a classy gesture from the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.
