The GOAT debate on Lebron James and Michael Jordan often reaches the world of pro wrestling. The WWE superstar CM Punk gave his insights on the discussion. For him, however, it’s already a “no contest.”
The two-time WWE champion from Chicago was interviewed at ESPN’s first take. Undoubtedly, ‘His Airness’ is way greater than ‘The King’ for him. Punk even stated that Lebron does not come close to the deceased NBA legend Kobe Bryant.
“No contest, come on. [It’s Jordan] 100 percent. I think the NBA is played and especially officiated a lot differently in 2024 than it was in the ’90s when the Bulls had the dynasty,” said Punk. “I think M.J. is up there with [Wayne] Gretzky as like ‘the guy’ when you mention a sport. When you mention basketball you mention Michael Jordan. I would say Kobe [Bryant] is a closer comparison to Michael Jordan than LeBron.”

People from Chicago, like Punk, feel that the debate between Michael Jordan and Lebron James shouldn’t be treated seriously, as there is already an answer.
Of course, it’s none other than Michael, who has given the city six championships in just 15 years in his career. They feel that no one could reach the same legacy as His Airness, not even Lebron.
Additionally, Punk said today’s NBA is different from when the Bulls were the league’s dominant dynasty. He also said that when asked who’s playing ball, they would probably say Michael Jordan.
Over his basketball career, Jordan has become the six-time NBA Finals MVP, five-time NBA MVP, 14x NBA All-Star, two-time Olympic Gold Medalist, and many more. Lebron, meanwhile, is a four-time NBA champion, Finals MVP, and MVP. James has also amassed two gold medals and another bronze medal in his Olympic career.
Lebron James’ basketball career is far from over
Even though he’s already at 39, Lebron is not planning to retire. He just re-signed from the Los Angeles Lakers and would also play with his son, Bronny James. The father-and-son-duo is the first in NBA history.
James could also win another championship in his remaining years. Still, there’s a low chance he’ll also reach Michael Jordan’s six championships. However, Lebron has a high chance of surpassing Jordan’s two gold medals at the Olympics. The Lakers’ veteran currently leads Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics. With the team’s roster and strategy, a third gold medal might be sure for Akron’s finest.
