LeBron James is known as one of the greatest all-around athletes in NBA history. Being a multi-sport athlete before he was drafted in 2003, many have wondered what James’ career would’ve been like in another sport, like football.
On the episode of “The Shop” shot in Paris during the 2024 Olympics, host and GM Paul Rivera asked King James if there was any Olympic sport aside from basketball he could compete in.
“Compete in, like, how much time are you going to give me?” LeBron asked back. “Maybe the long jump. I think I could do the long jump, maybe, or the high jump. If you give me some time. I need about six months, eight months, or whatever, preparation to get to that,” he continued.
Rivera followed up by asking if it would be a podium finish. James replied, “Yeah, I’m an only-podium guy,” and then went to demonstrate some breakdancing he would do on the podium, to which the audience burst into laughter.
James and the rest of the USA men’s basketball team proceeded to win their fifth-straight and 17th overall Olympic gold medal, defeating host country France. LeBron James would also be crowned the Olympics MVP.
LeBron James sends support to family of deceased NHL star and his brother
LeBron James was among many sports personalities who offered their condolences to the family of ice hockey player Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew. The Columbus Blue Jackets revealed the news of his untimely passing early Friday morning.
“The Columbus Blue Jackets are shocked and devastated by this unimaginable tragedy,” the Blue Jackets’ statement said. “Johnny was not only a great hockey player, but more significantly a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to his wife, Meredith, his children, Noa and Johnny, his parents, their family and friends on the sudden loss of Johnny and Matthew.”
The Gaudreau brothers were in New Jersey on Thursday when a suspected drunk truck driver struck the bicycles they were riding, killing them. The driver who caused the accident is now in police custody.
“Insane man! I instantly got so down and sad after reading the story. My thoughts and prayers goes out to the Gaudreau family! May Johnny and Matthew fly high, guide/guard their family/s from the heavens above,” James’ X post read.
Gaudreau had just turned 31 on August 13 and was set to play his third NHL season with the Blue Jackets and his 12th overall.
