LeBron James and JJ Redick got in way over their heads and made a fool of themselves, as they exit the 2024-2025 season after a disappointing first-round playoff loss against the Minnesota Timberwolves. At least, this is the honest take of analyst and critic Jason Whitlock on the matter.
In one of the recent episodes of his program “Fearless,” Jason Whitlock blasted both LeBron James and JJ Redick for “getting in over their heads,”
“JJ Redick made a fool of himself,” Whitlock boldly said. “He got in over his head. He and LeBron James, it look really easy from the podcast booth. ‘Yeah, I can coach the Los Angeles Lakers, and we can trade for Luka Doncic, and we have two ball-dominant guys who don’t like to play defense, and we’re going to win.”
“JJ Redick has made a fool of himself.”
JJ Redick faced significant criticism for his coaching decisions during the Los Angeles Lakers’ first-round playoff exit against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Analysts and fans questioned his lack of adjustments, particularly his refusal to make substitutions in the second half of Game 4, which left key players exhausted.

Redick also drew backlash for his emotional reactions during press conferences, including a heated exchange before Game 5, where Reggie Miller reportedly had to calm him down.
LeBron James, Luke Doncic Praise First-Year HC JJ Redick
Despite their disappointing exit after losing the first round of the playoffs to the Minnesota Timberwolves, LeBron James and Luka Doncic gave praise to first-year head coach JJ Redick and how he handled the franchise during the entire 2024-2025 season.
“I think JJ’s going to continue to grow,” James said. “Thought he had a hell of a rookie campaign for a rookie coach. And it’s a lot different being a rookie coach. It’s already hard being a rookie coach in the NBA. And I thought he handled it extremely well. He pushed us.”
“I think he’s a hell of a coach,” Doncic said. “I’m really glad I got coached by him for these couple of months. It feels sometimes like I’m back in Europe a little bit. So I love it. We have a great bond. It’s been nothing but amazing with him as a coach.”

LeBron James has been playing in the NBA for 22 seasons, beginning his career in 2003 with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Over the years, he has played for the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers (again), and Los Angeles Lakers, winning four NBA championships along the way.
