The future of LeBron James in a Los Angeles Lakers uniform, to some extent, is still up in the air. He has a decision to make on his player option for the 2024-25 NBA season worth $51.41 million. His agent has already dropped a hint that he would be a free agent. Even though he’s about to turn 40 years old in December, The King is still a big threat on the court, someone who could help an underachieving franchise get over the hump, like, you know, the Phoenix Suns.
Darvin Ham turning down a chance to be a Phoenix Suns assistant could be a positive sign for the team on the LeBron James front
Reports have recently surfaced about former Lakers head coach Darvin Ham turning down a chance to be part of Mike Budenholzer’s coaching staff in Phoenix. Could that be a sign that the Suns just improved their chances of landing LeBron James?
Via Kevin Hicks of Inside the Suns:
This development will also almost assuredly continue to raise speculation that LeBron James is destined to wind up in Phoenix, as it would be unlikely for the current Lakers star to suit up for his former head coach again.
Despite having a Big Three composed of Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal, and Devin Booker, the Suns went down in flames in the first round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs. They were swept by the Minnesota Timberwolves in four games, which led to the firing of Frank Vogel after just a season of coaching the Suns. Budenholzer would later be hired by Phoenix to be its newest head coach.
A potential LeBron James signing by the Suns would be huge, as the Suns would have a legitimate playmaker to handle the ball as a guard.
This season, LeBron averaged 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 8.3 assists per game while shooting 54 percent from the field and 41.0 percent from deep.
