Lebron James continues demonstrating his clutch genes as he and Durant carried Team USA into a dominating victory against Serbia at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The NBA podcaster Dan Le Batard again uses James’ performance to compare him to many legends, such as Tom Brady and Michael Jordan.
Batard recently shared his newest insights on the ongoing comparison between the King and his Airness in his podcast.
“Imagine Michael Jordan at the end of everything not shooting jumpers for the Wizards, older than any athlete out there and still deserving of holding the flag how emotional you would have been watching it because you’re so much nicer to him,” said Le Batard.

Le Batard also referenced Tom Brady, the greatest quarterback ever. The seven-time Super Bowl champion is also called by many the greatest player of the NFL, so he’s also subject to comparisons on who’s better between the perceived GOATs of their respective sports.
James carrying America’s flag is a rare moment. The Lakers power forward is the first men’s basketball player to be the USA’s flag bearer in Olympic history. Through this act, the former NBA MVP exceeded his influence not just in basketball but throughout the sports world.
Like others, the 55-year-old sports personality included the fact that James can still play in the NBA despite his old age. At age 39, Lebron reached the 40,000-point mark and even had the chance to play with his son, Bronny James. It also looks like the 20-time NBA All-Star won’t plan to retire since he just re-signed with the Lakers.
For Le Batard, there’s already an answer to the ongoing debate on who the real GOAT is in basketball: Lebron James or Michael Jordan. However, his insights still do not prove there is a complete answer to who’s better than James, Jordan, and even Brady’s achievements.
Lebron James as the ‘modern-day’ Muhammad Ali
In the same podcast session, Batard referred to Lebron as the “modern-day Ali.” He also expressed this insight regarding James as the USA’s flag bearer. Over the last twenty years, James has been the symbol of excellence in the sports world for the Miami-based analyst.
Ali and James also engaged in social activism, cultural influence, and advocacy for change. They were also champions in their sports. However, their unique contributions don’t mean that one is better than the other.
