South Carolina HC Opens Up About Lisa Leslie’s Support
South Carolina Gamecocks head coach Dawn Staley opened up about how Lis Leslie visiting them helped the team a lot, particularly with their current run in the NCAA Tournament.
“Lisa is great. Lisa is a person that’s passionate about basketball,” Staley said. “We’ve spent a lot of hotel nights as roommates. We absolutely love basketball. I’m going to pick her brain about some of the things that we need to do to continue to help our players like Adhel, Maryam, and Joyce.”
“She is, a four-time Olympian. I don’t know how many MVPs, championships, gold medals. Any time you can have a resource like that, it’s always great to have, especially when we get so many bigs that come through our program.”
She further added: “I might want to bring her to our film session at the hotel tonight, so I might be able to bring her there and just have her around our players to ask questions about how they can maximize this, you know, space in the NCAA Tournament and beyond.”

Lisa Leslie played in the WNBA for 12 seasons, from 1997 to 2009, all with the Los Angeles Sparks. She was one of the league’s most iconic players and a trailblazer for women’s basketball. Her greatest awards and accolades include being a three-time WNBA MVP (2001, 2004, 2006) and a two-time WNBA champion (2001, 2002).
