Star point guard Lonzo Ball is set to make his return for the Chicago Bulls soon. The former No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft has been battling a knee injury since the 2021-22 season. Ball hasn’t played an NBA game since Jan. 14, 2022.
The Bulls hoped he’d return for the 2022-23 season. However, the 26-year-old has had to undergo multiple surgeries that have kept him off the court.
The Chicago Bulls are hoping for a Wednesday return
Per Darnell Mayberry with The Athletic, the Bulls are “targeting” Wednesday’s preseason game against the Minnesota Timberwolves as Ball’s return date. However, the timing of his return is a little cloudy after the weekend. The Bulls kept Ball out of a team shootaround on Saturday as the former UCLA standout experienced soreness.
Bulls fans aren’t optimistic after Lonzo Ball’s setback on Saturday
The news that Ball was held out of shootaround caught the attention of many Bulls fans. The Bulls have offered too many optimistic forecasts on Ball, and let’s just put it this way: head coach Billy Donovan didn’t exactly confirm #2 would be in uniform against the Timberwolves when he talked to reporters on Monday.
“And he’s out for the year,” wrote one fan.
“Maybe it is (normal), but then shouldn’t they have kind of told the fan base in advance, ‘now there’s going to be days where we hold him out because of soreness, but it’s just part of the plan and something we’re already expecting to navigate blah blah blah,'” posted another.
“I’ll believe it when I see him on the court,” commented a fan.
“Welp, see you next year Lonzo ):,” posted another.
“I get it’s ‘normal’, but man, it still feels like a kick in the guts,” suggested a frustrated fan.
“He hasn’t actually played in a game yet and is already feeling knee soreness,” asked a fan. “That’s not a good sign.”
