The offseason isn’t looking so great for the Los Angeles Clippers.
After losing to the Dallas Mavericks in the first round of the 2024 playoffs, it became clear that something isn’t fundamentally working with the Kawhi Leonard-Paul George partnership.
Everyone waited with bated breath on what the forward would do as it was clear that he would be denying his player option with the team. While the team tried their best to get George to go all in on the Clippers, PG13 eventually decided to leave LA and head east to join Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey in Philly.

With the emergence of a new superteam out in the Atlantic, the Clippers now find themselves scrambling to pick up the pieces as free agency begins to move rapidly.
They needed to find a talented scorer who could also make defensive contributions. They seemingly found their man, but not everyone is happy with the team’s decision.
Fans react after the Los Angeles Clippers sign Kevin Porter Jr. to two years

The Spun’s Matt Hladik reported that the Clippers immediately moved to acquire Porter after failing to retain George’s services within the City of Angels, they quickly moved to acquire the young guard who just pled guilty to domestic assault.
Fans immediately took to social media and hounded the team with criticisms of what they perceived as a PR disaster:
“Should be playing in jail tbh,” a Raptors fan said.
“Clippers are disgusting,” another person added.
“Clippers signed Josh Primo and now this guy, what a sick organization,” a Warriors fan said.
“Oh this is nasty work. And from the same franchise that signed Josh Primo. Gross,” a fourth person said.
When you look at things from a purely basketball perspective, it’s understandable why Kevin Porter Jr. was a sensible signing for the Lakers. The USC product averaged 15.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 1.4 steals a game. If developed correctly, Porter Jr. can take over George’s spot on the roster.
However, it doesn’t look good on the Clippers that they’re going with someone who has serious off-court issues. Hopefully, the negative press will result in better on-court play for the team moving forward.
