The Los Angeles Clippers are wasting no time moving on from Paul George, who recently confirmed his desire to leave LA in free agency.

The Clippers have a considerable amount of cap room available now that they won’t be re-signing the nine-time All-Star, and they have decided to use some of it on Derrick Jones Jr.

After deciding to move on from the Dallas Mavericks, Jones is now headed to LA after reportedly agreeing to a $30 million deal with the Clippers. It was NBA guru Shams Charania of The Athletic who broke the news on Sunday evening:

“Free agent forward Derrick Jones Jr. plans to sign a three-year, $30 million deal with the Los Angeles Clippers, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Major pickup for the Clippers,” Shams reported on X, formerly Twitter.

Jones was a pivotal piece of Dallas’ NBA Finals run this past season, averaging 8.6 points and 3.3 rebounds in 23.5 minutes per contest. He could be in line to take over George’s starting spot in LA, assuming the Clippers do not bring in a big in a new small forward via free agency.

The Clippers are retooling so it would not be a surprise if they bring in a few more new faces in the coming days/weeks.
