Shortly after the Los Angeles Clippers confirmed the departure of Paul George on Sunday, it was reported that they had agreed to sign Derrick Jones Jr. via free agency on a $30 million deal.
The Clippers are far from done in terms of retooling their roster in the post-PG13 era, and they have now made another move by adding former No. 5 overall pick Kris Dunn in free agency.
Los Angeles Clippers Set to Sign Kris Dunn
The Clippers have now signed two players in less than 24 hours after it was first reported by Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report that Dunn has agreed to terms on a new deal with LA:
“Free agent guard Kris Dunn has reached an agreement with the Los Angeles Clippers, league sources tell @NBAonTNT, @BleacherReport,” Haynes reported on X, formerly Twitter.
The details of the deal are currently unclear, but this is another win for the Clippers, who have just scooped up one of the best guard defenders in free agency.
With the signings of Jones and Dunn, it appears that LA will be taking a committee approach in terms of attempting to fill the void George has left now that he’s taken his talents to the Philadelphia 76ers.
The Clippers were not willing to pay George the max deal he was demanding, which alludes to the fact that their salary cap constraints meant that they weren’t in the market for a big-name superstar that could potentially be a one-for-one replacement for the now-departed nine-time All-Star.
Dunn, who spent the last two seasons with the Utah Jazz, is obviously no Paul George, but he could prove to be a key signing for what the Clippers are hoping will be a formidable title push in 2024-25.
