Los Angeles Lakers big man Anthony Davis was in his top form Tuesday night. While many turned their attention to LeBron James and Bronny James, Davis went down to work and smoked Rudy Gobert and the Minnesota Timberwolves on both ends of the floor.
Davis finished the Lakers’ 110-103 win at home with 36 points. In addition to that, Davis pulled down a total of 16 rebounds, dished out four assists, and swatted away three shots in 38 minutes.
With that explosive performance, Davis was able to repeat a feat no other player in the history of the league had accomplished in the last 40 years.
Via OptaSTATS:
In the last 40 years, there have been 3 instances of an NBA player having at least 30 points, 15 rebounds, 3 assists & 3 blocks in a season opener. Those 3 instances are Anthony Davis in 2016-17, Anthony Davis in 2018-19 & Anthony Davis in 2024-25.

Anthony Davis came up big for the Los Angeles Lakers against the Minnesota Timberwolves

It was an incredible 2024-25 season debut to say the least for Davis, who signed a three-year maximum contract extension with the Lakers worth $175.37 million in 2023. Timberwolves stars Rudy Gobert and Julius Randle had no answer to Davis, as the former top-pick overall pummeled Minnesota from start to finish.
Thanks in large part to Davis, the historic father-and-son appearance of LeBron and Bronny was not spoiled by a loss. The same thing can be said about the regular-season debut of JJ Redick as an NBA head coach.
