Los Angeles Lakers center/power forward Anthony Davis is considered one of the best two-way players in the NBA. The nine-time NBA All-Star remains a key factor that makes his team successful even with LeBron James in the team.
Many think that Davis would end his career as a member of the Lakers roster, but The Athletic’s Jovan Buha sees things differently. In the “Lakers mailbag” segment of his “Buha’s Block” podcast, where the Lakers beat writer answered questions from fans, a fan asked Buha to name players on the Lakers roster who he thinks would still be with the team five years from now.
Before Buha answered the question, he first gave his thoughts about Anthony Davis.
“AD in 2029 would be turning—he’d already be 36, gonna be turning 37 that season,” Buha said. “I wonder if AD is still even playing then. I think he’s capable of still playing then and still being effective, but five years from now, 36-year-old, 37-year-old Anthony Davis, given his injury history, I do wonder.”
Then he proceeded to answer the question, saying, “My guess AD is not on the Lakers at that point, but maybe he’s the second or third guy next to a new star or a new couple of stars.”
LeBron James was the main reason why Davis came to play for the Lakers. With James turning 40 by the end of the year and his future with the league in question, it would also be a curious scenario to see Davis still playing for the Lakers when James calls it quits.

Anthony Davis talks about his mentality going into the next season
The 2023-24 season was one of the best seasons of Anthony Davis’ career. He was hailed as one of the best defenders in the league that season, averaging nearly 25 points per game. Despite his performance, however, the Lakers were eliminated early in the playoffs, losing in the first round against the Denver Nuggets.

Speaking to the media, Davis laid out his plans this season.
“Being aggressive every time down the court, being dominant every game, doing my job, doing my part in helping this team do what we gotta do,” Davis said. “Being a leader of the team, carrying us in games, playoffs, whatever it takes. Obviously, it’s a team effort in what we’re trying to build, but for me personally just taking it upon myself to make sure that I’m even better than I was last year.”
The Lakers star is determined to get his teammates back on the winning track.
