The Los Angeles Lakers won their second game in a row Sunday night by demolishing the Minnesota Timberwolves at home, 120-99. The win came after the Lakers escaped with a 123-122 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks, also in La La Land, last Friday.
The win over the Timberwolves improved the Lakers’ record to 36-30. They are only two games outside of the top six in the Western Conference standings. While they are six games above the play-in tournament cutoff line at the moment, the Lakers can’t afford to be complacent, with still several contests remaining on their schedule.
Anthony Davis Is Aware Of Los Angeles Lakers’ Urgent Need To Start Cobbling Up Wins Amid Chase For Guaranteed Spot In The 2024 NBA Playoffs

Although they are winning games of late, the Lakers are far from safe in terms of their chances to make the playoffs. Anthony Davis knows the importance of each game for the Purple & Gold, and it showed in the way he played versus the Timberwolves.
Davis took full advantage of Minnesota’s banged-up lineup, especially in the frontcourt. Davis toyed with the Timberwolves’ defense, with Minnesota missing the pair of Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert.
“Effort, knowing the importance of the game,” Davis said after the win over the Timberwolves (h/t Mike Trudell of Spectrum SportsNet).
“Obviously, they were missing key parts of their team, but they still have guys that can make plays and win a ball game … we’re trying to close the gap in the standings (between the Lakers and teams in front of them),” Davis added.

When it was all said and done on the court, Davis had a stat line that was one for the books. He had a monster double-double of 27 points and 25 rebounds. Davis also dished out five dimes and recorded seven steals plus three blocks in a brilliant all-around effort.
