The Los Angeles Lakers got a great start to their 2024-25 NBA regular season after clobbering the Minnesota Timberwolves at home on Tuesday. The Lakers’ 110-103 victory in that contest had Anthony Davis’ fingerprints all over it, as the Los Angeles big man dominated offensively and defensively.
How good was Davis against the Timberwolves? Let’s just say he earned himself a mention in the same sentence as the legendary Wilt Chamberlain.

The Timberwolves had four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert in the middle but he didn’t seem to matter to Davis, who shot 11-for-23 from the field and hit 13 of his 15 attempts from the foul line. Gobert’s presence may have also been an added motivation for Davis, who finished just fourth in the 2023-24 NBA Defensive Player of the Year voting despite posting solid numbers.

It is not surprising to see Davis come up with a performance like that. As long as he’s healthy, Davis can put together a big stat line and lead the Lakers to win against any team. Last season, the former Kentucky Wildcats star averaged 24.7 points on 55.6 percent shooting from the field, 12.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.3 blocks per game.
Davis and the Lakers will take a couple of days of rest before getting back to work on Friday against the Phoenix Suns at home.
