The Los Angeles Lakers were always going to get flak for drafting Bronny James, even if it only cost them the 55th pick.
Allegations of nepotism are already rampant in social media, and his performances in the Summer League only seem to prove the point. However, many are still curious how James Jr. will perform when he finally plays his first full season in the NBA.
While the James household has to weather the storm, that doesn’t stop people from making unnecessary comments about the young man. In fact, one media personality launched an epic tirade about James that had many fans raising their eyebrows.
Jason Whitlock calls Bronny James a ‘Make-A-Wish kid’ on the Los Angeles Lakers roster
Jason Whitlock is no stranger to making controversial comments. The former FOX Sports host has been long criticized for making outlandish statements that rub people the wrong way, and his comments on Bronny’s Summer League debut weren’t any different.
Per The Spun’s Chris Rosvoglou:
“Bronny James looked out of place at his Summer League debut. LeBron James has turned his son into the Make-A-Wish kid, and everybody in the media is going to play along,” Whitlock said.
Fans immediately lashed back at him, criticizing him for comparing a basketball athlete with children in tough conditions:
“Jason Whitlock never appears on my timeline with something positive to say,” one fan wrote on X.
Another fan said, “You really gone do this to a 19 year old kid? This is what you gone use your platform to do?”
“Calling him a make a wish kid is disgusting,” a third fan replied.
Bronny may not have had the best Summer League campaign, but his performance in his second game caused fans to grow divided over his potential as an NBA player.
Of course, Whitlock wouldn’t make such a claim if Bronny didn’t have a disappointing Summer League by his standards. However, certain lines mustn’t be crossed when it comes to calling out athletes.
