Bronny James’ poor form since the NBA 2K25 Summer League has been carried over this preseason in the Los Angeles Lakers’ losses against the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Phoenix Suns, and their win over the Milwaukee Bucks.

Former NBA journeyman Kwame Brown, the first overall pick of the 2001 NBA Draft, was critical of Bronny James’ performances, so much so that he accused the former USC guard of “coasting” since he already has a guaranteed contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.
“He don’t have an offensive rhythm right now so, sh*t, be young. Nobody can control you being able to run. But I see a kid just coasting because he has a guaranteed contract. Anybody else in that position would be cut,” Brown said on his YouTube channel.

“Somebody going underneath if you ain’t a knockdown shooter, you got to put pressure on the defense on that big in order to get that float off. And if you don’t do that, what are we doing? I can critique his game without bashing him,” he added.
Bronny James’ shocking Los Angeles Lakers preseason stat revealed
According to Stephen Noh of Sporting News, Bronny James has a -40 plus/minus through three games with the Los Angeles Lakers, which is dead last among the 494 NBA players to log minutes this preseason.

Bronny James couldn’t find his rhythm offensively, as he was 1-for-11 from the floor in the said period. His only made basket was a garbage-time layup against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The 20-year-old combo guard did show some flashes on the defensive side of the court when he had three blocks in the first game, although he looked lost for the most part.
