Bronny James is one of the biggest question marks for the Los Angeles Lakers as they prepare to make a championship push in the 2024-25 season.
James Jr.’s performances over the Summer League have been questionable at best, and people are openly wondering why the Lakers used their 55th pick on the USC product if not for the fact that he’s LeBron James’ eldest child.

While some attempt to make detailed arguments that Bronny is a sensible selection for the Purple and Gold, one college head coach made a bold declaration that made his stance on the younger James’ spot in the NBA loud and clear.
Doug Gottlieb doesn’t think Los Angeles Lakers’ Bronny James would start in his team

During a recent interview, Gottlieb was asked about his honest opinions on how James has been performing for the Lakers in the Summer League.
His answer says a lot about his honest assessment of the young man, as reported by The Spun’s Chris Rosvoglou:
On Friday, a fan asked Green Bay basketball coach Doug Gottlieb this question: “Doug, is Bronny James good enough to start for your team in Wisconsin be honest answer the question Doug could you work with them and get them NBA ready.”
Gottlieb’s response to that question was quite telling.
“He would compete to start, but while I like how he moves the ball and defends, he wouldn’t be my point, and my wings are bigger and without seeing him w/us, I think it would be hard for him to start TBH,” Gottlieb replied.
Bronny’s G League performances are marred by a lack of offensive efficiency. However, he’s shown he can become a decent defender with his steals and blocks.
Bronny has plenty to prove if he wants to build a solid NBA career outside of his father’s influence. If he does manage to build a career, he’ll be able to look back at all of these criticisms and laugh about it.
