Bronny James hasn’t panned out for the Los Angeles Lakers thus far, but JJ Redick still believes that the 19-year-old guard is on the right track.

Redick said in an interview with Sirius XM Radio that the eldest son of LeBron James could eventually be one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA, as the Los Angeles Lakers head coach compared the former USC guard’s career trajectory to Luguentz Dort of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
“We were at the Canada-USA basketball exhibition game,” Redick said via Clemente Almanza of the Thunder Wire. “And I turned to one of our assistant coaches during the game. And I said, ‘I think Lu Dort just single-handedly broke up the eighth possession of the game.'”
“Like, his impact. You can’t get into your offense. Sometimes, the shot clock winds down because of his ball pressure. He literally blows up entire plays because of that pressure. And I really believe this. Bronny will eventually be that guy,” he emphasized.

The comparison between Bronny James and Luguentz Dort is unfair. James was drafted with the No. 55 pick of the 2024 NBA Draft, despite coming off a subpar campaign with USC, while Dort was a much more accomplished player at Arizona State but went undrafted in 2019.
Bronny James has yet to find his footing with the Los Angeles Lakers
Bronny James still has a long way to go to become the next Luguentz Dort, especially given his struggles in the ongoing NBA Summer League.

The former USC guard is coming off yet another poor outing in an 88-74 defeat to the Boston Celtics, as he shot 1-of-5 from the field for two points. James also recorded three fouls, two turnovers, and one assist in 25 minutes of action.
Overall, Bronny James is averaging 4.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.3 steals per contest, but he is only shooting 7-of-31 from the field and has yet to make a three-pointer (0-for-15).
