Los Angeles Lakers guard Bronny James still has a long way to go to prove that he belongs in the NBA, but his Summer League coach Dane Johnson said he is well on his way.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Johnson described the eldest son of LeBron James as a “good kid” because of his willingness to be coached.
“He had two pretty good games (in the) last two. I think it’s just going to help him going into the summer so we can work on different things with him,” Johnson said about James via Mark Anderson of the Associated Press.
“In general, he doesn’t let any of that stuff get to him. He just wants to play basketball and be on a team. He’s a good kid. He’s listening. He’s trying to learn,” he concluded.

Bronny James had a rough start to his NBA 2K25 Summer League campaign. At one point, the former USC guard didn’t make a single three-pointer after his first 15 attempts.
However, James bounced back with his performances against the Atlanta Hawks and the Cleveland Cavaliers. In the end, he finished his run with averages of 8.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game on 35 percent from the field and 15.8 percent from three.
Bronny James’ position for the Los Angeles Lakers
At this time, Bronny James’ position on the court is unclear because he is undersized as a shooting guard and is not yet capable of being a top playmaker to be an NBA-level point guard.

“He picks up stuff really well. We throw stuff at him – plays, coverages, defensively. He kind of picks it up really quick, so I think he could potentially be a point guard. But I think right now, being that secondary playmaker is kind of where he’s at right now,” Dane Johnson said.
Bronny James is not expected to crack into JJ Redick’s rotation, but at least he has the buy-in from everyone within the Los Angeles Lakers.
