As usual, it has been LeBron James who has been hogging the headlines of late for the Los Angeles Lakers. This doesn’t come as a surprise at all, especially considering how the 20-time All-Star recently became the first player to eclipse 40,000 points in the history of the NBA.
On Monday night, however, it was D’Angelo Russell’s turn to steal a bit of the spotlight.
D’Angelo Russell Leads Los Angeles Lakers to Big Win Over Thunder
The Lakers hosted the second-best team in the West on Monday, which was an opportunity for LeBron and Co. to prove their supremacy over the young stars of OKC. James (19 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists), Anthony Davis (24 points, 12 rebounds), and Austin Reaves (16 points, seven assists) all came to play as LA secured a 116-104 statement win against the Thunder.
Russell, however, was on another level. The former All-Star caught fire in the fourth quarter, sinking no less than three straight triples early on to erase any hope of a comeback for OKC. DLo’s best and most impressive shot was his third consecutive triple over the outstretched arm of Jalen Williams:

That was TOUGH. Unsurprisingly, Russell sent the entire Crypto.com Arena into a frenzy after sinking that shot.
The Lakers did not look back from that point on.
D’Angelo Russell Sets Twitter on Fire
Russell finished Monday’s win with a game-high 26 points on 9-of-17 shooting, which included 5-of-11 from beyond the arc. The 6-foot-3 guard also added six rebounds, three assists, four steals, and a block in 33 minutes of action.
DLo had NBA Twitter buzzing hard after that heroic performance for the Lakers:

D'Angelo Russell, no stranger to a hot hand this season, threw in a series of daggers, with 3 straight triples in a manner of 1 minute and 6 seconds, putting the Lakers up 103-79 with 9:02 to play.
Russell, all of a sudden, has 26 points on 9 of 16 FG's.

Last three Lakers with 25/5/4s and 5+ 3P in a game:

— Kobe Bryant

That last tweet about Russell entering Kobe Bryant and Magic Johnson territory is pretty epic.
