For the Los Angeles Lakers, having Luka Doncic is a big deal for their organization. After all, he’s a generational player, and the spotlight will always be on him now that he’s playing in Los Angeles. The Lakers organization wants to make the most while they have Doncic on the roster. On the Tuesday episode of the show “Games With Names,” team owner Jeanie Buss talked about the franchise’s goal to take advantage of the five-time All-Star’s prime.
The current group the Lakers have with Doncic isn’t ideal. The team hasn’t had the chance to build a decent team around the 6-foot-6 guard, as everything happened all of a sudden when they traded for him. However, they are willing to address the star’s request as seen during the deadline. The front office tried to make a deal with the Charlotte Hornets to acquire Mark Williams, a center who fits the preference of the European star.

When the topic of Doncic was brought up, Buss said that she and the front office want to surround their new star player with the “right players.”
“I think we need to get the right players around him [Luka Doncic],” Buss said (20:14).
Doncic has been a positive force for the team, helping them climb up the Western Conference standings. Additionally, the team views the five-time All-NBA player as their next franchise star. The 26-year-old player has appeared in 12 games for Los Angeles, averaging 24.5 points, 8.4 rebounds and eight assists.
Doncic took the blame for the Los Angeles Lakers’ loss against the Nets

On Monday, the Los Angeles Lakers played against the Brooklyn Nets. It was the first game the team played without LeBron James since he suffered a groin injury. Doncic finished the game with 22 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists in 41 minutes of action. Despite playing longer than usual, the team couldn’t defeat the Nets and had an 111-108 loss.
The 2019 Rookie of the Year had a poor shooting performance that night. Doncic only made 30.8% of his shots from the field. After the game, he took the blame for the team’s loss, saying that he should’ve made better decisions on the floor.
“Just should’ve made better decisions on that one. I think we started the game doing a really good job, good decisions, and then just went kind of out of it,” Doncic said.
“Definitely. I think I should’ve helped more, but they all played great. And we gotta have the same mentality moving forward. Injuries are gonna happen and it’s just gotta be next man up mentality.”
Doncic has a chance at redemption on Thursday against the Milwaukee Bucks.
