JJ Redick, the new head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, continues to be featured in interviews on podcasts and shows. The former Clippers player recently gave shocking yet truthful insights into a veteran analyst based on his former critic’s experiences with this fellow.
The prominent sports media personality Stephen A. Smith is the analyst in question. In an interview with Hasan Minhaj, Redick commended Smith’s outstanding ball knowledge, which excited spectators and created a spectacle.
“I think you can be entertained and you can like some of the debate shows in sports media,” Redick said. “I think Stephen A. [Smith] is one of the most talented people that I’ve ever been around. He’s super intelligent. … There’s a performance art to it and it’s beautiful at times. This is not a comment meant towards him at all, I think it becomes toxic.”
As a former ball analyst, Redick is often featured in different commentaries and sometimes engages in criticisms and debates with 56-year-old Stephen Smith.
The newly appointed Lakers coach usually uses his experience as a former NBA player to provide insights into the league’s happenings, adding understanding to the debates.
Stephen A. Smith currently hosts his podcast and is usually the commentator on ESPN’s First Take. Redick was also featured in the sports talk program, hence the rare crossing of fates with the veteran sports journalist.
First Take often features intense debates with a mix of entertainment but also delves into narratives and topics that tarnish the overall experience and insights of authentic basketball.
Redick also argued that too much entertainment in sports commentaries doesn’t entirely give the true feeling of ball insights.
The former Duke player made sure that dramatic plays and relevant news remained balanced when giving insights about basketball.
The Los Angeles Lakers’ possible benefits on Redick
As a former NBA player, Redick already has experience managing his roster. He had played against some of the Lakers’ players, such as his friend Lebron James. However, the new Lakers head coach must also uphold this before next season starts.
Last season, the Lakers lost to the Denver Nuggets in the first round. As a result, the team’s previous head coach, Darvin Ham, was fired. Like Redick, Ham is also a former NBA player associated with LeBron.
Redick’s entry to coaching was controversial. However, he’ll ensure he can bring the Lakers further next season.
