Many have criticized the Los Angeles Lakers’ new coach, JJ Redick, on what he could do for the team. However, his former coach has positive feedback on him, telling everyone there’s more to the former NBA player.
Mike Krzyzewski, Redick’s college coach at Duke, has something to say about the new Lakers’ head coach at an interview with “The Herd with Colin Cowherd.”
“For me, JJ is amazingly competitive, and is prepared as well as any player that I coached at Duke. He’s smart, he’s confident and he understands the game and having 15 years of being a pro, he has empathy for the guy trying to make it when he’s trying to make and makes it, and for the veteran who is still trying to make it.”
Coach K is confident in his player, who gave him five national championships at Duke. He knows that Redick’s the clever, confident, and competitive type and definitely has experience managing players, veteran or newbie alike, brought on by his experience as an NBA player on many teams.
Krzyzewski added that Redick has a better understanding of the game, unlike everyone else. NBA players might not be superstars like the players they handle, like LeBron, but they can relate to them since they have faced them in their ball careers. Besides, Redick is surrounded by veteran coaches such as Scott Brooks and Nate McMillan, who once became head coaches.
The signing of JJ Redick as the new head coach of the LA Lakers sparked tons of criticism. Like Coach K says, Redick has some ball and player management skills, but being immediately hired to the highest level of coaching is rushed, considering he could’ve become an assistant coach for the Lakers first.

Redick decides to act accordingly as the Lakers’ new head coach. He is on an ongoing mission to bolster the team’s lineup before the start of the 2024 NBA Cup. JJ also seems to focus more on Bronny James, aiming to turn him into a game-dominating player for the next season.
JJ has a job to do. He will ensure the Lakers will not share the same fate as last season under Darvin Ham, a former NBA player. It’s a big question to everyone if Redick would lead the Lebron-led Lakers to another championship like the one back in 2019-20.
