The Los Angeles Lakers are still without a head coach for next season, especially after they missed out on Dan Hurley, who turned down their $70 million offer this week.

Dan Hurley said his wife Andrea was a big reason he didn’t accept the Los Angeles Lakers head coaching job. He also denied rumors of using the team’s courtship as leverage in a different contract negotiation with the UConn Huskies.
With Dan Hurley no longer in the running for the head coaching vacancy, the Los Angeles Lakers now have New Orleans Pelicans assistant James Borrego and former NBA veteran JJ Redick at the top of their list, with the latter reportedly set for an interview with the front office this weekend.
Dan Hurley is not the right coach for the Los Angeles Lakers, per former player
New Orleans Pelicans forward Larry Nance Jr. chimed in on the Los Angeles Lakers’ pursuit of Dan Hurley during his latest appearance on FanDuel TV’s Run It Back. In the episode, he said Hurley dodged the bullet for not joining the Purple and Gold.

“Personally, I think a first-time head coach is not the answer. The LA market is really hard if you’ve never dealt with something like that before,” Nance said.
“If you miss a shot, you’re the next fill-in-the-blank. If you miss a shot, you should’ve never picked up a basketball in your life. It’s tough, I think you’d probably need an established coach, but I can’t necessarily put a name out there for that. You need someone with some clout,” he added.

Larry Nance Jr. was also asked whether the Los Angeles Lakers should consider having LeBron James as their player-coach, but the 31-year-old shot down the idea.
“I’m gonna say no, because a lot of times, the very best have a hard time teaching others how to do something because it comes naturally to them,” Nance continued.
“You need someone that wasn’t the greatest player ever. Somebody with experience. I actually thought Vogel was really good for them when they had him, but you know…” he added.
