Whether you like it or not, the NBA will witness history when the Los Angeles Lakers play their first game of the 2024-25 season.
Depending on who you ask, Bronny James joining the Purple and Gold with the 55th pick is a product of LeBron James’ influence or the fulfillment of a prophecy. Many will continue to argue that Bronny is nowhere near good enough to be near an NBA team, but the Lakers have made their peace with James Jr.’s shortcomings when they decided to select him.

Lakers fans will have a chance to see what the younger James is all about when he plays in Lakers colors during the Summer League. Meanwhile, Bronny’s most avid supporters would have to make do with an interaction between the first father-son duo in NBA history.
LeBron James daps up Bronny during son’s introductory press conference with the Los Angeles Lakers

Bronny and fellow rookie Dalton Knecht were introduced by GM Rob Pelinka and head coach JJ Redick during the Lakers’ introductory press conference recently. It was during this event that Bronny laid out his intentions during his first couple of years as a Laker.
In a show of support, LeBron showed up to the press conference and waited for the entire event to end. After Bronny was formally introduced as a Laker, he immediately went to his father and dapped him up.

You can see from the way they handled the entire thing that they’ve been practicing the handshake for a long time. While we may not know if it was done in preparation for this moment, it’s still awesome to see the father welcome his son into the league as a teammate.
It also speaks a ton about LeBron’s longevity as a player. To still be one of the league’s top stars while entering his 22nd year in the league is an insane achievement.
It remains to be seen if Bronny will see significant playing time as a part of the Lakers next season, but this upcoming season will be a special one for the James household.
