There’s no denying that there’s a pretty insane hype surrounding Bronny James and his upcoming Los Angeles Lakers debut. After all, the 19-year-old is set to make NBA history with his dad, LeBron James, as the first-ever father-and-son duo to ever play on the same team.
ESPN’s NBA guru Adrian Wojnarowski expects the Lakers to make this happen once the new season commences. Woj believes, though, that Bronny’s time with LA in 2024-25 will be short-lived.
Los Angeles Lakers News: Bronny Expected to Be Sent to NBA G League
According to Woj, the Lakers’ plan on Bronny would be to send the young guard down to the G League in order to get reps. Apparently, his chances to crack head coach JJ Redick’s rotation this coming season are slim to none:
“What the Lakers’ expectations are is that he’ll largely be a G League player, like almost any 19-year-old player coming into the league drafted in the second round,” Wojnarowski said (h/t Ben Leibowitz of the Akron Beacon Journal).
“I think what you’ll ultimately, probably see is Bronny James in the first week of the season on the court with his father in a very … I don’t want to call it ceremonial, but the eyes of the world will be on that. They’ll do that the first week of the season, but there’s no expectation Bronny James is going to be in the Lakers’ rotation.”
That’s tough to hear. Then again, as Woj indicated, this is the usual path players like Bronny have to take. This young man has been credited for the hard work he’s put in to get to the position he is in right now, and it is clear that he will now need to work even harder to make it in the NBA.
