After making waves in his Summer League debut for the Los Angeles Lakers, Bronny James has all of a sudden been forced to miss out on what would have been his second game for the Purple & Gold.
Bronny was a notable absence on Sunday for the Lakers as they took on the Golden State Warriors in their California Classic showdown. As it turns out, James is dealing with an injury in his left knee — one that is serious enough to force him to sit out against the Dubs.
Los Angeles Lakers News: Bronny James Out With Knee Injury
The good news for Lakers fans is that the issue appears to be minor. ESPN’s NBA insider Kendra Andrews shed some light on the injury:
“Rookie Bronny James was held out of Sunday’s California Classic summer league game in San Francisco because of trace swelling in his left knee, a Los Angeles Lakers spokesperson confirmed to ESPN,” Andrews wrote.
The report further indicates that James sitting out on Sunday is “considered precautionary” and that the 19-year-old is expected to return to action on Wednesday against the Miami Heat.
Making Good Progress
Bronny did not exactly come out with a mind-blowing performance in his Lakers Summer League debut on Saturday. The second-round pick finished with four points, two rebounds, and two assists in a little less than 22 minutes of action.
Lakers summer league coach Dane Johnson said after the game that he expects to see more from LeBron James’ eldest son moving forward:
“He’s just got to keep learning, keep getting reps and learning how much he’s capable of,” Johnson said after Saturday’s game. “Like, his body, he can get downhill if he uses his shoulder if he has a little bit of an advantage on somebody. And just building that confidence into him.”
