After being selected by the Los Angeles Lakers, rookie guard Bronny James signed a four-year contract with them, leading fans to criticize the move. For an NBA expert, though, his deal with LA isn’t out of line at all.
The Lakers have signed their second-round draft pick to a guaranteed four-year contract that could be worth nearly $8 million. Before going pro, the 19-year-old son of Lakers superstar LeBron James, had a challenging start to his college career at USC, missing the early portion of the season due to a sudden cardiac arrest and surgery to repair a congenital heart defect. However, he was able to return and play in 25 games, averaging 4.8 points and 2.8 rebounds per game.

Despite the initial setback, the Lakers believe James has the potential to develop into a reliable rotation player, with his shooting, defense, and overall feel for the game. Los Angeles’ new head coach JJ Redick praised Bronny, highlighting his athletic ability, point-of-attack defense, and passing skills as areas that the team plans to help him improve through their player development program.
This contract marks the first time in NBA history that a player will share a roster spot with his father, as LeBron James recently agreed to a two-year deal with a player option and a no-trade clause with the Lakers.
NBA Expert Sheds Light on Bronny James’ Los Angeles Lakers Contract Amid Criticisms

These past few days, Bronny’s Lakers contract has been receiving so much criticism. But according to a tweet by NBA expert Sam Vecenie on X, there’s nothing unusual about it.
“Guys, Bronny’s contract is not out of line with other picks in the 50s for teams looking to save money.
-Chris Livingston got 4 yrs, multiple guaranteed years at 58th in 2023
-TJD got the same at 57
-Camara got the same at 52This does happen,” Vecenie tweeted.
Bronny is expected to play in the Summer League in Las Vegas as part of the Lakers’ roster later this month. It’s not yet known as of now if the younger James will play in the G League first before making his NBA debut or not when the season starts.

It remains to be seen whether Bronny can prove himself worthy of his contract with the Lakers. In any case, a lot of eyes will be on the rookie to see if he can live up to expectations.
