The Los Angeles Lakers’ decision to select Bronny James in the 2024 Draft has come with varied reactions from fans and critics alike. For one unnamed NBA executive, though, that decision was a valid one and it serves the franchise best in the long run.
Just recently, the Lakers have agreed to sign LeBron James‘ son, to a four-year, $7.9 million contract. Bronny was selected by the Purple and Gold in the second round of the 2023 NBA Draft.

The deal is a significant commitment for a second-round pick, highlighting the Lakers’ belief in Bronny’s potential. At just 19 years old, the young rookie has the potential to stand out on the court.
The four-year, $7.9 million contract suggested the Lakers see Bronny as a long-term investment and are willing to give him time to develop and showcase his skills at the NBA level. This deal is a testament to the James family’s legacy and the Los Angeles’ commitment to building a competitive team for the future.
The signing of Bronny James has generated a lot of excitement and speculation around the league, as fans eagerly await the opportunity to see him team up with his father, LeBron, and potentially carry on the family’s basketball tradition.
Anonymous NBA Executive Justifies Los Angeles Lakers’ Decision To Pick Bronny James

While his recent Summer League performance has left a lot of people disappointed, there are still those who think the Lakers made the right decision. In an article written by Steve Bulpett for Heavy, there is reportedly one unnamed NBA executive who thought that Los Angeles’ selection of Bronny was valid.
“I don’t think it’s a stretch at all for him to be a 55th pick,” the source told Heavy Sports. “You could say it is after the year he had as a freshman, but what he accomplished leading up to his freshman year and he played really well in the (NBA Draft) Combine — and he had one really good day at the Combine — all that part?
That makes him more than a valid pick. “I would take Bronny over I-don’t-know-how-many players in that second round. I think all the controversy stuff is a lot to do about nothing,” Bulpett wrote.
During the Lakers’ previous Summer League match against the Houston Rockets, James posted eight points, five rebounds, and two steals. Ultimately, Space City won against the Purple and Gold with a score of 99-80.

It remains to be seen whether James will play in the G League first or make the Lakers’ roster at some point next season. Nevertheless, a lot of eyes will be on him to see if he can prove himself worthy for the NBA.
