Los Angeles Lakers news: Bronny James wore the No. 6 during his brief time at USC. He obviously won’t be able to wear that number now that he’s with the Lakers as that’s the same number worn by his dad, LeBron James.
Bronny will be wearing the No. 9 for LA this coming season, which has already gotten the seal of approval from a Lakers icon who once donned that same number.
Los Angeles Lakers News: Nick Van Exel Approves Bronny James’ No. 9 Jersey
Nick Van Exel, who played five seasons with the Lakers between 1993 and 1998 is one of the most popular players to rep the No. 9 shirt in LA. He has now reacted to Bronny taking on the mantle:

Van Exel is clearly hyped about Bronny’s decision, which is an awesome show of support from the former All-Star.
In five seasons with the Lakers, Van Exel produced 14.9 points on 41.0 percent shooting, to go along with 2.8 rebounds, 7.3 assists, and 1.0 steals, while also knocking down 2.0 triples per game on a 36.4 percent clip.
Van Exel wasn’t exactly a bona fide superstar during his time in Hollywood, but Bronny would have had a tremendous run in the NBA if his career came anywhere close to that of the former Lakers point guard.
That’s still so far down the road, though, and at this point, Bronny will need to take things one step at a time as he embarks on what is going to be an extremely challenging NBA career.
