JJ Redick‘s coaching staff with the Los Angeles Lakers is finally taking shape. On Thursday, it was reported that the Lakers have hired two tenured shot-callers as they pursue their objective to add as much experience around Redick.
The Lakers took massive steps toward this goal by hiring Scott Brooks and Nate McMillan as assistant coaches.
Los Angeles Lakers Sign Scott Brooks, Nate McMillan

It’s good to know that the Lakers are making progress with their coaching staff ahead of the new season. They haven’t had much success in terms of adding new players via free agency, so the hiring of Brooks and McMillan is the substantial news update the Lakers faithful will need to settle for for now.
This report comes via Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times:
“The Lakers are hiring Scott Brooks and Nate McMillan to the front of JJ Redick’s bench, a source with knowledge of the situation but not authorized to speak publicly confirmed to The Times,” Woike wrote.

Brooks joins the Lakers after a three-year stint with the Portland Blazers as an assistant under Chauncey Billups. The 58-year-old, however, has a ton of experience as a head coach, having sat at the helm for the Oklahoma City Thunder (which he led to the NBA Finals in 2012) and the Washington Wizards for a combined 12 seasons.
McMillan, on the other hand, boasts an even deeper resume. The 59-year-old is coming off a one-year coaching hiatus but he has had head coaching stints with the Seattle SuperSonics, the Blazers, the Indiana Pacers, and most recently, the Atlanta Hawks.
It’s a known fact that Redick has zero coaching experience, which is why the Lakers front office is doing everything they can to surround their rookie coach with as much experience as possible.
