One could argue that the Los Angeles Lakers have emerged as one of the biggest losers in NBA free agency thus far. After all, Klay Thompson, James Harden, Jonas Valanciunas, and DeMar DeRozan, among others, were all on their radar before each player decided to turn down the opportunity to join the Lakers.
Be that as it may, LeBron James remained unfazed.
Los Angeles Lakers News: LeBron James Still Has Anthony Davis on His Side
It’s easy to forget that the Lakers still have two Top 10 players (arguably) on their roster in LeBron and Anthony Davis. This is exactly why James remains confident that this current group is more than capable of competing for another championship:
“Of course,” James told Dave McMenamin of ESPN. “Because we’ve done it before. We’ve done it before, and we still have two guys who commit every single day with myself and AD. We commit to excellence and commit to win. And we feel like any situation, any given year, we can put ourselves in a position to be able to succeed. And we’re not that far off.
“We were one year removed from the Western Conference finals. Obviously, this year it didn’t go as well this past year. Didn’t go as well as we would like, but we’re not that far off.”
“And there’s so many teams in the league,” he said, “but we don’t see that we are that far off in the West.”
Despite pushing 40, LeBron will still be doing LeBron things this coming season. Let’s also not forget that Davis is one of the top big men in the NBA today. This is a notion that some naysayers so conveniently overlook, and James just wanted to make sure to send a reminder to anyone and everyone out there who has doubts about the Lakers.
