More than a few names have been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers this summer. Klay Thompson and James Harden were two of the biggest stars that were rumored to be on LA’s radar, but those moves obviously did not come to fruition.
It now appears that the Lakers have begun to pivot in terms of any potential additions this offseason. Apparently, a third star might not be coming to Hollywood.
Los Angeles Lakers Not Looking to Add Third Star

ESPN’s NBA guru Adrian Wojnarowski recently provided an update on LA’s offseason dealings. Now that most of the big names are off the free agency market, Woj does not expect the Lakers to make a big splash this summer:
“What’s left are going to be minimum contracts, are going to be some moves on the edges, but there’s not a dramatic deal for the Lakers to do out in the marketplace,” Woj said. They don’t want to use their draft picks to get contracts off.
“They’ll certainly use them if there’s a player that makes sense as part of a bigger deal, but right now, they’re not involved in any deals that would land them a third star. They’re seeing the landscape of this league and that the three-star model, with this salary cap, doesn’t work or it’s much more difficult for it to work.”
.@wojespn on the Lakers’ remaining offseason strategy:
– Los Angeles will be making moves on the edges, including veteran’s minimum signings.
– The Lakers are not interested in including draft picks to salary dump contracts.
– Internally, they believe the three stars model… pic.twitter.com/gQhVJhHIzw

DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Kuzma are two more names that have been linked to the Lakers recently, and you could consider both to be star-caliber players. Woj’s recent report seems to indicate, however, that LA is not targeting these types of big names right now as they remain confident in the current group they have for the upcoming season.
