After months of speculation, All-Star forward LeBron James signed a new contract with the Los Angeles Lakers that’ll potentially keep him within the team for two more years. However, there’s one intriguing detail within the deal that’ll secure the King’s future as a Laker during that period.
The Lakers have recently signed James to a two-year contract with a salary of $104 million. This move solidifies the King’s commitment to the franchise and their pursuit of another NBA championship.

At 39 years old, LeBron is entering his 22nd season in the league and continues to defy Father Time with his exceptional performance and leadership on the court. The four-time NBA champion and four-time MVP has been the cornerstone of the Lakers’ resurgence since joining the team in 2018, leading them to a title in 2020 and guiding them to the playoffs in each of the past four seasons.
The specifics of the contract were not disclosed, but it is widely expected that the deal will allow LeBron to play alongside his son, Bronny James, who was recently drafted by the Lakers in the 2024 NBA Draft. The opportunity to share the court with his son has been a lifelong dream for the elder James, and this signing makes that dream a distinct possibility in the near future.
LeBron James’ New Contract With the Los Angeles Lakers Features One Interesting Detail

Along with a hefty bag of money, a no-trade clause, and a player option, there’s one other detail fans should know about James’ contract with the Lakers. According to tweet by Shams Charania on his official X account:
“Along with player option and no-trade clause, James’ contract also includes a 15 percent trade kicker, sources said,” Charania tweeted.
That detail means James will received an additional 15 percent of his total salary in the event Los Angeles trades him to another team. Of course, that will only happen if he will allow the Lakers to do so since there is a no-trade clause in his contract.

Having that detail, along with all the other conditions, in his contract will only mean James’ future with the franchise is as secure as it can get. It remains to be seen, though, how his upcoming season will go, especially since the Lakers haven’t made a big splash in free agency this year.
