The three players Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James would reportedly be willing to take a significant pay cut for are Klay Thompson, James Harden, and Jonas Valanciunas.
Harden has re-signed with the Los Angeles Clippers, while Valanciunas has agreed to terms with the Washington Wizards.
This leaves Thompson as LA’s primary target in free agency.
Los Angeles Lakers News: LeBron James Called Klay Thompson
LeBron isn’t messing around. Before he agrees to lose up to $20 million in salaries, he wants to make sure that it’s going to be worth the financial sacrifice. This is exactly why, according to ESPN’s NBA guru Adrian Wojnarowski, James called Thompson to try and convince the latter to sign with the Lakers:
“I’m told LeBron James called Klay Thompson right when free agency opened,” Woj said. “… Reached out, takled to Thompson.”
Woj also said that the Dallas Mavericks is another team Thompson’s camp is speaking with and that the renowned league insider believes that there “probably will not be a resolution tonight.”

For Thompson, there are few bigger compliments than to be personally recruited by the NBA’s all-time leading scorer. LeBron clearly wants Klay in LA, and the Lakers talisman is pulling out all the stops to make sure that this happens.
As Woj said, Thompson is expected to make his decision by Monday, so this will be a situation we will be monitoring closely.
