While there are still a handful of names that are reportedly in contention for the Los Angeles Lakers head coaching job, it appears that there are two candidates that have emerged as the final frontrunners.
At this point, it feels like an official announcement by the organization is imminent and according to NBA guru Shams Charania, it has come down to JJ Redick and James Borrego.
Los Angeles Lakers News: JJ Redick, James Borrego Considered Finalists for Head Coach Position
This comes as no surprise. Redick and Borrego are two names that have been prominently linked to the Lakers since they started their search for their next head coach. According to Shams, both candidates have had multiple interviews with the team, and it appears that they are now the two finalists for the high-profile gig (h/t Evan Sidery of Forbes Sports on X, formerly Twitter):

Redick, in particular, has to have the edge here. After all, he is buddies with LeBron. Despite the fact that James himself has denied any involvement in the search process, it’s almost unimaginable to think that the Lakers talisman would have absolutely no influence on the organization’s final decision.
Unlike Redick, however, the one thing going for Borrego is that he has experience under his belt. The 46-year-old is currently an assistant coach for the New Orleans Pelicans, but he also previously served as a head coach for the Charlotte Hornets for four seasons.
Whichever direction this path takes, what you can say for sure is that LA’s new head honcho will face a ton of pressure the moment he steps into the coveted role.
