To a certain extent, you could say that new Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick would not be where he is today had it not been for his podcast, The Old Man & The Three. After all, it was through this show that Redick launched his broadcasting career.
A few years later, Redick found himself setting up a podcast alongside Lakers superstar LeBron James — one that eventually led to the 40-year-old taking over as LA’s new head honcho.
Los Angeles Lakers News: JJ Redick Bids Farewell to Podcast
Redick hasn’t been active on his podcast for some time now. On Monday, the former No. 11 overall pick made his exit official. In an emotional message, Redick thanked everyone who supported his show for the past four years while also revealing the plan for the podcast moving forward:
“Everything we have done has been based upon a foundation of a love of the game of basketball, and going forward, everything that @ThreeFourTwopro will do without me will be based on that love of the game of basketball.”

As Redick said, he won’t be shutting down the pod. This wouldn’t be a sound decision considering how much success this show has achieved through the years. We will now see, however, if it will still be able to reach the same heights sans Redick.
For his part, the incoming rookie coach announced that he will have “no involvement” in the show whatsoever. Right now, his sole focus is on the Lakers and doing whatever he can to make this group a legitimate title contender this coming season.
