The Los Angeles Lakers have not had a shortage of trade targets throughout the offseason. They have not found much success in retooling their roster ahead of the new season, though, which apparently, all boils down to one troubling reason.
Los Angeles Lakers Have ‘Negative Value’ Trade Assets

Lakers insider Jovan Buha recently went into a deep dive on LA’s lack of offseason activity. Buha confirmed that the Lakers have been active on the trade market as they look to make a significant offseason splash.
The problem, though, is that they do not have much assets available to make any sort of deal work.
“D’Angelo Russell and Jarred Vanderbilt, Gabe Vincent, Rui Hachimura, they have somewhere between neutral to negative trade value across the league,” Buha said (h/t NBACentral on X, formerly Twitter).
“There are certain teams that have interest in maybe one of those guys, but there are very few if any teams that have interest in multiple of those guys, and that’s ultimately been why the Lakers have been not able to find a deal.”

Creating a substantial trade package is apparently what has been holding back the Lakers from getting their hands on the players they want. It’s not for a lack of trying but rather, it’s more about other teams simply wanting nothing to do with the players LA has supposedly placed on the trade block.
At this point, it has become abundantly clear that Rob Pelinka and the front office will need to get extremely creative (and/or bold) if they want to strike the deal they want this summer.
