The Los Angeles Lakers continue their offseason mission to acquire talented ball players across the league. One of their targets is Portland’s power forward Jerami Grant, with whom the Blazers have been finding someone to trade recently.
However, an LA executive finds Grant incapable of being integrated into the current roster. Insider Sean Deveney talked with this anonymous executive. Apparently, this secret man said that if Grant does enter the Lakers, he highly doubts that it would cause so much change.
“If they get Grant, I am not sure they are that much better as a team. It’s a bad contract. He’s a good shooter, but he is not a very good defender. I am not sure he is that much better than Rui (Hachimura), so if you’re giving up Rui and a draft pick.”
The executive can’t see this possible contract as applicable and will definitely not contribute to the future of the Los Angeles Lakers.
“I can’t see making that move. It’s making a trade just for the sake of making a trade, and that’s always unwise.”
The former Syracuse player’s team was sadly unfortunate this past season. The Portland Trail Blazers never advanced to the playoffs, ending the regular season with 21 wins and 61 losses.
The team finished last in the Western Conference. Jerami played 54 games, averaging 21.0 points, 2.8 assists, and 3.5 rebounds.
Grant’s NBA career, overall, has also not been prominent lately. He entered in 2014 as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers. He then switched to Oklahoma, Denver, Detroit, and recently to Portland.
He only experienced playing in the playoffs four times. The 30-year-old power forward was on the Nuggets when the team lost against the Lakers during the 2020 Western Conference Finals.
The Portland-born player has also yet to receive an NBA achievement. Despite this, he was part of Team USA at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where he won a gold medal.
The Los Angeles Lakers are on the hunt for good players
After their first-round loss against the Denver Nuggets, the 2020 NBA Champions are determined to bounce back from their humiliating loss.
However, their promises remain low, as the team had never acquired players other than Dalton Knecht and Bronny James. The Lakers’ stars, Lebron and Anthony, are also aging, so they really need to find new players who will replace these two as soon as possible.
Grant could be one of those, but the Blazers demand a first-round pick and one of their key players.
