Austin Reaves is important in the Los Angeles Lakers’ postseason hopes. While many Laker faithful knew that Hillbilly Kobe had the potential to become one of the most important players on the roster, his transformation into a key piece for the Purple and Gold garnered respect from analysts and fans across the league.
His most recent performances highlight how great Reaves is playing for the Lakers this season. His play made the most of the opportunities LeBron James and Luka Doncic creates for him and the rest of his teammates.

However, there’s a moment during their close win over the sixth-seed Grizzlies that reminded him how much he liked playing alongside the King.
Austin Reaves praises LeBron James during a critical moment of the Los Angeles Lakers’ win over Memphis

The team’s 134-127 win over the Grizzlies showed how tight the game was at that point of the season. JJ Redick needed his team to make sure the heartbreak they suffered against Chicago wouldn’t happen again, and LeBron was caught screaming at his teammates to make sure they get the W.
Reporters asked Reaves his opinions about the controversial moment, but the Oklahoma product was more than happy with how LeBron took control of the situation.
Per Fadeaway World’s Gautam Varier:
“It’s the first time I’ve heard him yell in a while,” Reaves said. “… It was refreshing to be honest. I don’t remember exactly what he said, but it just shows how much he cares. His attention to detail is probably the standard. So, if all of us can lock into that every single possession, you can create something special.”
Reaves’ performance against the Grizzlies showcased the hot hand he’s had recently. He finished the game with a team-leading 31 points, seven boards, eight assists, two steals, and one block. Meanwhile, James finished with 25 points, six boards, and eight dimes.

Hillbilly Kobe took a massive leap in his fourth year in the league, averaging 19.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 1.1 steals a game. If he jumps another level in the playoffs and the following season, an All-Star appearance is not out of the picture for him.
