Former Los Angeles Lakers forward Robert Horry expressed his disappointment with the team’s moves (or lack thereof) this summer to improve their squad during his latest visit to the Philippines.
“To be 100 percent with you, I’m really disappointed that they didn’t make any moves or add another veteran piece,” Horry said via Nicole Ganglani of Basketball Network. “When I say that, that’s not pointing any fingers at them, but sometimes guys just don’t want to come to L.A. or don’t want to pay those taxes. Even if they got some good draft picks, when you’re in a position to make some real moves in the NBA, you’ve got to make some real moves.”
As is often the case every year, the Los Angeles Lakers have always been linked to star players, but they kept missing out on them. This offseason, they couldn’t get notable free agents like DeMar DeRozan, Klay Thompson, and Paul George, among others.
Instead, their only free agency addition so far is Christian Koloko, a third-string center at best who played previously for the Toronto Raptors. The Los Angeles Lakers also re-signed LeBron James and Max Christie to new contracts and drafted Dalton Knecht and Bronny James.
The Los Angeles Lakers will continue to rely heavily on LeBron James and Anthony Davis
The Los Angeles Lakers are banking on roster continuity, with LeBron James and Anthony Davis leading the way. Both played well for Team USA during the Paris Olympics, so the key is for them to be healthy throughout the season.
LeBron James, 39, is showing no signs of slowing down. He played 71 regular season games in 2023-24, averaging 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 8.3 assists, and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 54 percent from the field and a career-high 41 percent from three-point land.
Anthony Davis is coming off his healthiest season while wearing the Purple and Gold, averaging 24.7 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.2 steals, and 2.3 blocks per game on 55.6 percent shooting from the field.
