Although Bronny James attracts the most attention among the new faces on the Los Angeles Lakers team, it is former Tennessee Volunteers star Dalton Knecht who carries heavier expectations for the upcoming 2024-25 NBA season among LA rookies.
Knecht has been performing well for the Lakers in the preseason, as he continues to prove himself as a potentially valuable part of Los Angeles’ supporting cast behind superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
Knecht is already starting to get the approval of his teammates, including forward Rui Hachimura.
“I like how he approaches the game,” Hachimura said of Knecht (h/t Edwin Garcia of Silver Screen & Roll).
“He’s very aggressive. He’s a great shooter. He knows his game. He’s still trying to learn. It’s different. I was like that, too, when I came out of college. Just the spacing and playing with these superstars, it’s not easy. He’s still trying to figure it out, but I want him to be more aggressive and just be himself.

Los Angeles Lakers rookie Dalton Knecht shines anew in preseason during Golden State Warriors clash

Knecht showed out again on Tuesday night when the Lakers took on Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors in a preseason game in Las Vegas. The 23-year-old bucket-getter came off the bench and fired 19 points, albeit in a 111-97 loss.
Although he shot just 6-for-15 shooting from the floor, he hit five 3-pointers on 13 attempts from behind the arc while also adding two steals.
