The Los Angeles Lakers have been striking out left and right in the 2024 NBA free agency period, but there’s still hope that they can land a big fish in the offseason, at least via trade. However, the interest in Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young appears to be waning, even from the Lakers, according to Zach Lowe of ESPN.
The Lakers, too, have shown little recent interest in Young, sources said. That could change if the price drops to L.A.’s liking. But the market for Young is as chilly as it has ever been.

Young’s name has been finding itself in countless NBA trade rumor discussions but up to this point, the Hawks still have him in the fold. Atlanta has already made a move to part ways with Dejounte Murray, but Young’s future with the only franchise he’s played for so far in the NBA appears to be uncertain still.
Wanting Trae Young and having enough to trade for him are two different things for the Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers seem like a good trade destination for Young, as the team could use an extra playmaker and deep threat to alleviate the pressure on the shoulders of LeBron James and Anthony Davis. However, it appears like the Lakers are not willing to cough up the assets Atlanta needs to give up the former Oklahoma Sooners star.
Young has three more years remaining in his current contract, including a player option worth nearly $49 million for the 2026-27 NBA campaign.
Last season, Young averaged 25.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 10.8 dimes in just 54 games played.
