I’m pretty sure Shaquille O’Neal would have loved to see his beloved Los Angeles Lakers take on the Boston Celtics in what would have been an epic NBA Finals showdown. The Celtics held up their part of the bargain, but unfortunately, LeBron James and the Lakers got bounced in the first round of the playoffs last season.
For their part, the Celtics went all the way to win the title. Shaq believes, however, that their path to championship No. 18 was light work.

It is clear that O’Neal agrees with the narrative that injuries to their opponents worked heavily in Boston’s favor throughout their title run. In fact, the Hall of Fame big man went as far as saying that their path to the chip was “too easy.”
“Boston had it easy,” Shaq declared in a recent episode of his podcast. “It’s not their fault. … They won it square but there’s still a lot of doubters. … Their Road was too easy.”

As Shaq said, it’s not Boston’s fault that they faced opposing teams that were banged up. The fact of the matter is that they are the 2024 NBA champions and there’s not anything anyone can do to change that.
O’Neal posed a bold challenge to Tatum and Co. this coming season, however, by saying that his “easy” dig would be validated if the Celtics fail to defend their crown against healthier opposition. Although, Shaq is also willing to give them their flowers if they do.
