Despite the fact that he’s firmly established himself as a fan-favorite among the Los Angeles Lakers faithful, Austin Reaves has still seen his name dragged into trade rumors this summer. This simply speaks volumes of the dire state the Lakers are in right now as they look to potentially shake up their roster in a major way following a disappointing 2023-24 campaign.
As it turns out, however, Reaves may have done enough to secure his future in Hollywood.
Los Angeles Lakers News: Austin Reaves Isn’t Going Anywhere
Apparently, the Lakers value Reaves as much as their fanbase does. According to a report by team insider Jovan Buha of The Athletic, LA is currently inclined to keep the 26-year-old with the team as opposed to trading him away:
“The Lakers would also prefer to keep Austin Reaves, according to team and league sources. They refrained from including him in trade talks for Murray at the 2024 trade deadline and Kyrie Irving at the 2023 trade deadline. Reaves’ playoff performances in 2023 and 2024 have affirmed his fit around James and Davis,” Buha wrote.
It is worth noting, though, that it is reportedly the Lakers’ preference not to deal Reaves. This does not necessarily mean that he is untouchable. At this point, it appears that it’s only LeBron James and Anthony Davis who have earned this right, with every other member of the squad possibly available at the right price.
This could still include Reaves, especially if LA is able to somehow strike a blockbuster trade deal that will allow them to bring in a third star alongside LeBron and AD.
