The clock is ticking for the Los Angeles Lakers. According to reports, LeBron James has given them a week to sign a star-level player via NBA free agency before the 20-time All-Star walks back on his commitment to take less money in his new deal.
Big-name free agents are also falling off the board quickly as LA’s options continue to diminish. Lakers fans will be glad to know, however, that the front office remains committed to the cause — at least according to general manager Rob Pelinka.
Los Angeles Lakers News: Rob Pelinka Reveals Trade Plan
The Lakers’ head honcho recently declared his intention to trade away two of the team’s most prized assets. According to Pelinka, he is more than willing to deal their two future first-round picks if the right offer comes along:
“Rob Pelinka says the Lakers and the rest of the NBA are now living in the ‘apron world’ – referring to the new structure of the collective bargaining agreement and penalties for teams well into the tax. He says the team will part w/ two future 1st Rd picks for right deal,” McMenamin reported on X, formerly Twitter.
With the likes of Klay Thompson and James Harden off the board, LA’s attention has reportedly shifted to DeMar DeRozan of the Chicago Bulls. The Lakers aren’t likely to sign the six-time All-Star via free agency due to their salary cap constraints, which means that they will need to secure a sign-and-trade deal with the Bulls.
Jerami Grant is another player who has been linked to LA, and they will need to give up a major haul to the Portland Trail Blazers to get their hands on the 6-foot-7 forward.
Either way, it appears that the Lakers will remain aggressive in the coming days/weeks as they continue to search for their man.
