The Dallas Mavericks prevented a two-game slide as they defeated the Paolo Banchero-less Orlando Magic at home on Sunday, 108-85. Unsurprisingly, Luka Doncic paced the Mavs with another stellar offensive performance, as he racked up 32 points on 11-for-22 shooting from the field while also adding nine rebounds and seven assists in 32 minutes.
Luka Doncic admits to talking trash in German during Dallas Mavericks vs. Orlando Magic game
What was perhaps surprising to at least some Mavs fans was Doncic’s admission during the postgame press conference about talking trash to some Magic players in German.
Via Mavericks reporter Noah Weber:
Luka Doncic on talking trash to some of the Orlando Magic players in German:
“I heard them talking in German, so I said some things in German…”
Says he learned German for five years in school, and when asked about what words he was saying, he said to “ask Maxi.”
The Magic have some international flavor to their roster with a number of their players coming from overseas. Among them are Franz Wagner and Moritz Wagner, who are from Germany.
Doncic, who is Slovenian, also reminded at least a couple of fans online about Kobe Bryant, who knows how to talk trash in different languages.
“Trash talking your opponent in their native language. Kobe-esque,” said @ChampagneWZRD.
“Such a Kobe thing to do I love it,” commented @ArtikusGaming.
Here are other reactions:
“our multi-lingual king”
“He better pick up some French so can be ready for Rudy again lol. I would love that!🤣”
“Slovenia is neighbour to Austria. So in schools, most of kids also learn German. Western schools learn Italian and couple of eastern schools Hungarian. Everyone knows English and Serb-Croatian…”
